The start-up phase

The first thing to do before starting PoliArch is to check in the BIOS if the boot from CD / USB (depending on if you mean PoliArch start from DVD or if you chose to use a pendrive) is enabled and the priority of the selected drive is higher than that of the hard-disk on which it resides already our operating system. At this point, insert the DVD / USB and restart your computer

Architecture

The first window that is shown by PoliArch offers a choice of the 32bit or 64bit kernel, in most cases you can boot into the image of tranquility 32bit, but if we want to interact with an operating system (perhaps using chroot) 64bit must initiate the appropriate 64bit version.

32-bit kernel

  • The 32bit kernel functions properly on any Intel / AMD / VIA
  • The 32bit kernel can be started even if the processor supports 64-bit mode (amd64 / em64t)

64-bit kernel

  • The 64bit kernel only works if your processor supports instruction set amd64 (AMD) or em64t (for Intel).
  • The 64bit kernel DOES NOT WORK on IA64 processors / Itanium
  • The 64bit kernel NECESSARILY be used if you wish to use chroot on a linux system that uses software 64bit

Start on a Virtual Machine

We can start PoliArch in a virtual machine such as VMWare, Virtual PC, VirtualBox by simply setting the ISO file as virtual CD-ROM in the BIOS of the VM and selecting the CD / DVD as the first boot device
