Example

In this example we have an hard disk that contains three partitions. Unfortunately:

• One logical partition (NTFS) has been removed by mistake.

This recovery example will guide you for the recovery operations:

• Restore the partition accidentally deleted

Use testdisk

First we must run testdisk

# testdisk

Log creation

• Select Create to generate a new log file.

Disk selection

• In the next screen page is showed the list of detected hard disk.
  • Select (using the arrows ↓ e ↑) the concerned disk

Partition table type

• Now TestDisk shows a list of partition table's types.
• Choose the suitable one (usually the best choice is the one proposed by TestDisk)

Actual state

• Select Analyse to start the analysis of the selected disk.

Quick search

• After a short analysis is showed a list with all the found partitions.
  • Pressing the key p is possible to see a list of files present in the partition.
  • Confirm pressing <enter>

Save the partition table

• If we don't have other partitions to recover and the situation showed is right, select the entry write.

Notes

• If the Quick Search doesn't find the partition to recover, repeat the procedure selecting Deeper Search.
